Classroom Management
Let's Talk About Classroom Management! There
are different kinds of schools with different kinds
of needs. Assuming we have achieved classrooms
that are Safe and Happy Places, we can proceed
with teaching.
In general, any time spent managing the class
is time stolen from Teaching And Learning!
Taking role, writing behavior referrals, issuing
bathroom and hall passes are some examples
of activities that detract from the teacher's
focus on Teaching.
I believe that these management tasks should be
handled with effective management structures so that
these routine matters are handled automatically,
usually by the students.
This notion of empowering students and giving
them ownership of managing themselves and the
classroom is very liberating for the students and
for the teacher!
I believe that Cooperative Learning is very
effective.
Creative management of Seating helps the process.
The First Two Minutes or so would settle
the class in for a successful period.
Now the class is ready for the teacherīs
Presentation of the subject matter.
